Senior Media Planner or Media Planner
Slingshot is looking for the next great media planner or senior media planner to join our growing team! If you have a couple of years of experience in the ad agency biz, a passion for developing innovative media plan solutions, and if you geek out over cool targeting tech and can rock a pretty sweet flowchart, then we’d love to talk.
The ideal candidate will have worked hands-on in an adserver (preferably Sizmek or DCM) for digital campaign tagging, deployment, and/or reporting, will be a self-starter who raises their hand, asks questions, and seeks responsibility, and will be fairly comfortable with an alphabet of acronyms like GRPs, OOH, CPM, CPP, CTR, CPCV, CPE, CPL, SQAD, R&F, RFPs, and MRI. An exacting sense of financial accountability and responsibility stewarding every penny transparently and responsibly in our clients’ media investments is also critical, as is a curiosity about data and the story it tells about how campaigns perform and why. It also helps if you are experienced in building "decks" -- that is, nicely polished powerpoints and not backyard patios, though you can enjoy plenty of patio time during 2 pm early dismissal "Summer Fridays," which are a pretty great seasonal perk.
So, if you excel at pivot tables... if a fast-paced environment gets your heart beating... and if your quest to learn more about digital and traditional solutions beyond your established base is an adventure you'd thrive on... we look forward to seeing your application! Read on!
Collaborating closely with a team of integrated planners/digital buyers (of varying levels) on planning team account assignments is a big part of this role. You’ll also be hands-on with digital buying (not in-platform bidding, though) and become entrenched in complexities such as viewability thresholds or data sources, directly work on print buying for local publications and national magazines, be expected to evaluate broadcast sponsorships or packages/networks, and get to know our clients’ markets to be comfortable making out-of-home location selections and recommendations.
Along with involvement in media planning across all platforms, and working on negotiating buys for print, streaming, display, and rich media, and doing reporting on digital performance on a regular basis, you will also liaise with our SEM and Social Ads/Marketplaces performance team, as well as our group's Broadcast Buyers; you will be expected to be conversationally proficient in the lingo and basic concepts of SEM, paid social, and linear broadcast buying (though you will not be expected to be hands-on in Google, Facebook, Amazon, or Strata).
The ideal candidate will also have a foundation of research skills, and will have already been trained on (and will have been active in) media research platforms like SQAD, Kantar, Pathmatics, Scarborough, or MRI-Simmons. This role reports to a Media Director. The final level of this role (whether Media Planner or Senior Media Planner) will be dependent on the selected candidate and their experience.
· 2+ years of experience; agency experience preferred or a hands-on planning/buying role if client-side (this is NOT a role for a brand new college grad seeking to enter the agency landscape, or if it would be your first job in advertising upon a career switch; please only apply if you have the requisite years of relevant experience)
· Bachelor’s degree
· Team-oriented, roll-up-the-sleeves attitude
· Insatiable curiosity or a love of puzzles
· Acute attention to detail and comfort with numbers
· Multi-cultural media experience is a plus
· Rock-star level Excel skills
· Stellar references
Slingshot is a mid-sized, independent agency, in Dallas, Texas, founded on a culture of innovation and driven by a welcoming and entrepreneurial spirit at all levels, from front desk to corner office. (Except we work in a pretty open space with rustic tables, warm brick, wood beams, and very few doors, but you get the point.) Most team members are working hybrid schedules right now, with 2-3 days per week in the office for our “connect” days, and with 2-3 days per week working remotely from home for our “flex” days, so this position is intended to be local in Dallas. (If you are seeking a full time remote position from another city, this position is probably not the right fit for you.) We love the environment and the vibe of our historic West End building; the weekly beer cart and biweekly catered breakfast all-agency meeting, and other cool things like fully paid month sabbatical time off earned at seven years are pretty awesome too, not to mention 401k matching and other comprehensive insurance and holiday/vacation benefits offered as well.
Applicants, please ensure your profile is up to date, and please also provide a PDF copy of your resume including an email address and a mobile phone number. Interviews may be conducted via Zoom or in-person at our office.
Slingshot is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to providing a warm and welcoming workplace for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, cultural background, faith, parental status, sexual orientation/gender identity, or any other disability or difference that makes each person unique
